The fourth edition of the Dublin Ankara festival, organised by  Redwood Entertainment Ireland was hosted by Fabu-D and  Dj Poison on the 31st of August 2012, at The Redcow Hotel. The event  featured a “mini”  fashion show, comedy by Fabu-D and performances from Joe Representer, Tosyn(UK), Tejay Tray+ a south African Artist. This year’s Ankara festival was unbelievably SOLD-OUT! Venue could not accommodate the number of people that turned out for the event but yea….the night rocked with top DJ’s behind the wheel of steel. I have been longing for an event like this because i belong to the skool of old  Gbagaun!…..don’t ask me my age! It was indeed a night of “BLAST from the PAST” read more from,  http://poddesk.blogspot.ie/2012/08/primmys-old-skool-v-afrobeat-battle-oky.html?spref=fb

Surprisingly, we had an Artiste (Sexy Steel) in the house, who currently, is on holidays in Dublin. A perfect night for Sexy Steel to be in the house, as his new single ‘BEBEDI ALHAJA’  clearly tallies with the theme of the event “OLD SKOOL NITE”. BEBEDI ALHAJA, is an high life music from the 70’s with a blend of modern day hip-hop from Vector the “Viper”, the rich melody and sound from Sexy Steel takes you back to the good old days. The Hospitality Crew is an important part of VRH. When an individual comes to an event or concert, they might not see VRH crew but that does not mean that their impact will go unnoticed. VRH crew are responsible for providing the backstage area/hall with a neat and orderly appearance this includes decorating and stocking the rooms with all  that will be used by the artists and tour managers. Another, and probably the most important job of VRH, is making sure that the artist performing has the most enjoyable and comfortable visit as possible. Before the artist arrives, we are given what is called an HOSPITALITY RIDER and in it, are the specifics of everything the artist would like in his/her dressing room, on the tour-bus after the show, on the stage. Anything else you can think of,  is usually covered in this. It is very important that this is followed as closely as possible. Artist Hospitality can get stressful at times, but it is very rewarding with all the different Artists from various backgrounds that you get the opportunity to interact with.

Music is the fastest growing sector of the Hospitality industry. There is an increase demand for Hospitality packages for concerts in today’s music industry. For every show, people want Hospitality of some description to tie in with the event. Music caters for every single taste, from classical, Jazz to urban, hip-hop and Afro-beats and there’s plenty of flexibility among the different VRH hospitality packages. Backstage Hospitality It’s more of a friendly environment than a formal client dinner. It’s a brilliant relationship builder, especially for long-term relationships. VRH Top-Notch bespoke hospitality is not only becoming more widely available and easy to book, it also promises a return on your investment.

VickieRobert Hospitality ensures Artists are made to relax and enjoy an awesome experience. You will be met at a secret location at the venue half an hour before the start of the show/event by a member of our staff who will then escort the Artist to the exclusive Hospitality lounge area where your host the promoter will be waiting to meet you and take you through to the event/show. Once inside you will get comfy, sit- back, meet other artists, get your vital signs checked after which you can then enjoy the experience of VickieRobert backstage hospitality Servicess Unplugged!

When it comes to hospitalsing for an Artist, first thing i ask the promoter bringing in the artist for a concert or show, is the artist’s  Hospitality Rider request.  Hospitality rider is a list of requests for the comfort of the artist on the day of the show.

A rider typically consists of 3 parts: Technical, Stage, and Hospitality.

A technical rider outlines for the event’s sound man, which piece of equipment’s channel goes to which location on the sound board. As a promoter, one is not expected to be able to understand how to read the tech rider. The promoter however is expected to have someone in the team that understands it. This person can then clarify with the artist/representative any lingering questions before the day of the show, to ensure that there are no problems during the soundcheck or performance.

A stage rider or plan is a diagram that shows the sound man and the technical support of the venue, where you need each instrument, sound monitor, guitar amp, mic stand, etc. This is to ensure that when the artist arrives for sound check on the day of the performance, you have everything ready in the place it needs to be.

The hospitality rider would consist of items that would be expected to be set up back stage in the green room to entertain the Artists, or spoil them before they go on stage e.g fruit, Cola products, tea/coffee, nuts, chips, maybe some beer or wine (depending on the policy of the venue). It is always important to remember, little treats backstage, makes the artist feel more welcome and generally speaking, it  increases their performance level. It never hurts to make the artist feel special before they get on stage to bring down the house!

Perod foundation and Miss Nigeria Ireland (Ewoma Ogoro) in collaboration with Kingsley Ogoro  supported by  Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, osita Iheme a.k.a paw paw, Okey Bakassi, Rowland Igbadumen a.k.a Youngest Oldman special guest Senator chief Stella Omu, recently held a charity in aid of st.John’s ward at our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and Cancer Centre, General Hospital Lagos Nigeria. It was an evening of song, dance, music and fashion show. The event was Top notch with VRH4Celebrities  contracted for the event’s hospitality. As an Hospitality Creative Director, it is my job to make sure the needs and wants of every Artist, guests, models at the backstage area VIP/regular sections are met. From ushering to assisting with fund raising at the event. hospitality is an important part of the experience at VickieRobert Hospitality 4 Celebrities.

The next day after the event, VRH -Celebbuzz had an exclusive  interview with Okey Bakassi and Youngest Oldman, both of them had similar things to say regarding their choice of career, ‘commedy is my talent and it’s a gift from God, rather than let it die, i choose to develop it’.  From the medical point of view,Youngest Oldman said comedy is good for your health!  Okey Bakassi had this to say…”comedy has always been in me, it comes naturally” when asked about the disadvantages of being a comedian, Okey explained that comedy is like every other job that has it’s  advantages and disadvantages, comedy is not exempted! ‘ people expect high standards from comedians’. Another disadvantage is loss of privacy. He also  pointed out that comedians are not ROBOTS, they have their HIGH and LOW moments too! The night ended with a dinner at  Mr Felix Yusuf Pwol’s residence.

Putting an event together as we all know can be hectic, stressful, time consuming and financially draining which has left most event promoters to see Hospitality as a luxury rather than necessity. It often breaks my heart when as an hospitality director, you try to convince event promoters about the importance and the advantages of hiring an hospitality service for an event/show and the promoter tells you “i have Moet &Chardon champagnes arranged for my artist and guests” i mean….like seriously, it baffles me when event promoters feel hospitality is all about expensive wines! The promoter themselves on the day of the show, double up  as the host, event planner and artist hospitality director! as the popular saying goes, “jack of all trade, master of none” at the end of the day, the artist or guest invited  to perform is not well looked after in terms of hospitality at events. This problem of promoters, dj’s, event planners failing to hire professional services of  www.vickierobert.com has become a torn in the flesh and it looks like it’s going to be  a persistent ocurance in Afro-tainment events.

We all know what Hospitality is, let me not bore you with definitions from the oxford dictionary!  I cannot over emphasize the importance  of  hospitality at every event! I have been and seen a lot of  lapses at events which actually made me start an hospitality outfit (www.vickierobert.com) to lay more emphasis on the needs and importance of hospitality services. One of the most important elements of a successful event is the “first impression” created by the events promoter. The hospitable nature in which the promoter deals with the artists or guests at his/her event  is essential in  making a fantastic impression, building & maintaining a relationship and leaving a lasting memory.
