VRH had an exclusive interview with “MAI”Galway based music Artist who emerged as the winner of THE BUDWEISER FUTURE SOUNDS OF IRISH MUSIC. She told us how she got into the competition,word of advise to all the unsigned artist and more..
VRH: Congratulations on your achievement! Just one year into the music industry and this….! How did you get to know about THE BUDWEISER FUTURE SOUNDS OF IRISH MUSIC?
MAI: The Budweiser future sounds of Ireland project was advertised on Facebook so I decided to enter it immediately because it seemed like a great opportunity
VRH: Was there at any point u thought you wouldn’t be shortlisted because of your color?
MAI: To be honest I never had a fear about getting short listed as top ten because I was of color but I was definitely concerned because I’m a woman and sometimes women are not taken seriously in this industry
VRH: How did you emerge as the winner?
MAI: The Budweiser future sounds is not a competition so to be honest there is no winner it’s just a project to help musicians wit there music career and help them get the exposure they require
VRH: Have you ever been in other competitions? Any prizes?
MAI: I’ve entered to mcd competition to open up for lil Wayne the prizes to tat was to open up at the academy for a famous rap star called Hoodie Allen and from there on I got the amazing life changing opportunity to open up for lil Wayne
VRH: Do you perform in public? Name some of the events you have performed at.
MAI: The bigger events I have perform at so far were the Nigerian canrival Ireland at phoneix park, opening up for Hoodie Allen in the academy, opening up for lil Wayne at the 02 arena in Dublin also i performed at Kelly’s factory electric garden twisted peppers at several mic a blaze events
VRH: what’s next?
MAI: Next I’m planning to do two E.P s called explicit and the other letter to him . After that am planning to do a few videos and more gigs 2014 will hopefully be full of surprises
VRH: Any word of advise for other unsigned artists out there?
MAI: I just want to let all artist know that they should continue to do what they are doing work hard and never give up, always surround yourself with positive people you can achieheve anything if u put your mind to it. Don’t be afraid to try something new or different you never know what can happen if you just try.. . Lastly never forget the people who were there from the start and also be true to yourself xxx
